Greensboro United Church of Christ is planning a concert on September 16 at 4 p.m. to celebrate its Johnson Organ’s 150th birthday. Built in 1868 by the Johnson Organ Company of Westfield, Mass. this pipe organ was first installed at a church n Athol, Mass. In February of 1916 the Greensboro church purchased and moved the organ to Greensboro where it has served the church for over 100 years. The concert will feature the many different ways the organ has served the church: as a solo instrument, in duets at the organ and with piano, as support for congregational singing, and as accompaniment for soloists or musical groups. Musicians participating will be Bronwyn Masse, Karen Miller, Sonia Dunbar,Gina Jenkins, and Tom Anastasio. A short history of the organ in this church will be included. Refreshments afterward will feature a birthday cake to celebrate the organ’s milestone. Everyone is most welcome to attend.
